Years ago while studying a collection of Eskimo hunting artifacts at a local museum in Anchorage; I was fascinated by a very old aboriginal bow that looked very much like a short Asian recurve. It had an unusual material on the arrow shelf. It was the skin of a hair seal. I was intrigued. Could those aboriginal hunters have known something we didn't? I secured a small piece of sealskin and glued it on the arrow shelf of my old Brackenbury recurve. It turns out those Eskimo bowhunters were on to something. The sealskin was the best arrow rest material I had ever used! I knew I had to share it with other bowhunters. That was 1990. I ran a little ad for my new arrow rest and within a few months, some of the most demanding and discriminating bowhunters in America were using seal skin arrow rests on their bows. It's unfortunate, but you can't get the sealskin anymore, too much red tape, but that one simple product, inspired by native Alaskans, was what spawned Alaska Bowhunting Supply.
The process of discovering and making seal skin rests available to traditional bowhunters was very fulfilling to me. I decided that from that point forward I would seek out and/or design the best bowhunting equipment possible and offer it to bowhunters all over the world. Alaska Bowhunting Supply was gowning!
As the business grew, Alaska Bowhunting Supply continued to introduce 'best in class' products. One of the most important things I learned was to listen to my customers' needs. Their feedback and input has led to our development of the best, high-quality archery products available today, regardless of price. In my eyes, it doesn't’t matter if the product costs $2.00 or $200.00, it should be the highest quality product available in that category. Take our GrizzlyStik carbon arrows for instance. I wasn't satisfied with any of the arrow choices available to me for hunting Alaskan big game like moose and grizzly bear. I needed an arrow that was heavy and tough, one that would fly like a dart from my bow and give me the penetration I needed to drive my broadheads completely through these large and sometimes dangerous animals. I poured myself into learning all I could about what made the best arrow for bowhunting. I learned more about archer's paradox, kinetic energy, momentum, and studied the "fast-light vs slower-heavy" debate. In the end, after years of trial and error the GrizzlyStik carbon arrow was born. It is, in my opinion the best arrow shaft ever developed for bowhunting. Whether you shoot a compound bow, a recurve bow, or a longbow, GrizzlyStik Original and GrizzlyStik Momentum U-FOC full length carbon arrows will give you the best performance in bowhunting situations than any other arrow I know of. Here's why...
First, the entire arrow is tapered from the nose to the tail. This offers tremendous advantages like; extreme weight forward of center (EFOC), near instead recovery from archer's paradox and impact paradox, as well as reduced friction against the shaft as it passes through thick hide, skin, flesh, or bone. Not only is the weight forward in the shaft (meaning it's heavier behind the point than it is at the nock), but the overall mass weight is also heavy. When most companies were pushing speed, we found that the secret to penetration favored the mass more than the speed. What no one pushing speed tells you is that in the kinetic energy formula, where KE = (mass x velocity2)/2 or 1/2 mv2, the velocity sheds its energy quickly during penetration and mass holds its energy longer. The bottom line is that a light arrow with a higher KE value on paper will actually penetrate LESS than a heavier arrow with a lower KE value once they encounter the resistance of a big game animal. Think about that for a while...

If I sound proud of our arrows, it's because I am. We're proud to have developed them and we're proud of our customers who have had such great success with them. Nothing makes us happier than hearing the success stories our customers tell us about their latest bowhunt. That's one of the benefits of offering top-quality bowhunting gear. You hear of success rather than failure.

In addition, my life philosophy helps fuel my passion as a small business owner. I truly believe in giving superior customer service that leads to overall customer satisfaction. Ask anyone who has done business with us and they'll tell you. We put the customer first. We listen to your needs and we make the best recommendations. Sometimes, since our products are so unique, our advice seems to "go against the grain". Still, we won't sell products to bowhunters that isn't what they need. We want them to succeed and when they succeed, so do we. That's the way it should be, don't you think?
To a degree I've stepped away from the day to day operations of the business so I can get out on the water fishing or in the field hunting but when I'm around I still answer the phone for tech support and the occasional order. It helps me stay in touch with our bowhunting friends. If you have any problems or questions about any of our products, we will do whatever it takes to deliver exceptional customer service. Let us know if you have any feedback about our products, products you'd like to see us carry, or even improvements you'd like to see in our products. We value your opinion.
If you're a believer in our GrizzlyStik arrows, broadheads, longbows and other Alaska Bowhunting Supply gear, tell your friends about us. If you've experienced great customer service tell them too. If you EVER have a problem, stop-drop-and-call! We WILL take care of you.
That's our promise. That's MY promise.
Good hunting, practice fair chase and above all, try to be the person that your dog thinks you are.
Best regards,
Ed Schlief Founder Alaska Bowhunting Supply
