We strongly advise our customers against fletching or using a paint cap dip directly on GrizzlyStik shafts because after the feathers are worn you have to deal with removing the paint cap or fletching glue from the shaft before you can re-fletch. Paint remover is necessary, but it also removes the finish on the shaft. It exposes the carbon gray of the shaft. No big deal but the beautiful amber finish is ruined. Some people “scrape” the glue off the shaft with some sort of a tool. This is a very bad idea. Never use anything like that on a carbon shaft because it can raise the carbon fibers. Carbon slivers are the result.
For those who don’t want a colored crest we recommend these totally clear wraps. That way the nice amber finish of the GrizzlyStik will show through. Stripping the vinyl crest later for re-fletching is easy. Just use a mild heat source. Hold the back of the arrow over the kitchen range, about 12” – 15” above the heat and gently warm the shaft. The vinyl peels off like an orange, fletch and all. If the shaft gets too warm to touch, it is way too hot.
