Note: GrizzlyStiks have a special low-drag finish. For that reason we recommend that you always use our GrizzlyStik arrow cresting wraps when gluing on feathers.
Tip:
"I strongly advise my customers against fletching or using a paint cap dip directly on the shafts because after the feathers are worn off you have to deal with removing the paint cap or fletching glue from the finish of the GrizzlyStik. Paint remover is necessary but it also removes the finish on the shaft. It exposes the carbon gray of the shaft. No big deal but the beautiful amber finish is ruined. Some people “scrape” the glue off the shaft with some sort of a tool. This is a very bad idea. Never use anything like that on a carbon shaft because it can raise the carbon fibers. Carbon slivers are the result.
I recommend to those customers who don’t want a colored crest to use either our clear/gold/red/black arrow wrap or the new totally clear version if they just want the nice amber finish of the GrizzlyStik to show through. Stripping the vinyl crest is easy. Just use a mild heat source. I hold the back of the arrow over the kitchen range, about 12” – 15” above the heat and gently warm the shaft. The vinyl peels off like an orange, fletch and all. If the shaft gets too warm to touch, it is way too hot.
For customers who insist on gluing the fletch directly to the GrizzlyStik, the super glues, such as Goat Tuff, seem to work the best. Bohning Platinum seemed to work okay for a few years but I think that they changed the formula and now it doesn’t work. I would guess that by gently sanding the fletch line on the shaft would help the bond with the Platinum. So there you have it. Have fun!" Ed Schlief
